How to Use a Wellness Wheel
A wellness wheel is one of the simplest tools I know for seeing your whole life at once. Instead of asking "How am I doing?" and getting a vague answer, it breaks your wellbeing into areas you can actually look at, one by one.
How it works
Draw a circle and divide it into slices, like a pie. Each slice is one area of your life. A wheel with nine areas might include:
- Body: movement, nourishment and how you feel physically
- Mind: focus, learning and mental clarity
- Emotions: how you process and express what you feel
- Work: how your work feels, not just how much of it there is
- Rest: sleep, downtime and true recovery
- Relationships: the people who fill and drain you
- Purpose: a sense that what you do matters
- Environment: your home, space and surroundings
- Spirit: whatever connects you to something larger
Then rate each area from 1 to 10, where 1 is depleted and 10 is thriving, and shade each slice from the center out.
The point isn't a perfect circle. It's an honest one.
What to look for
When you step back, notice the shape. A wheel that's lopsided would give a bumpy ride, and that's a helpful way to think about your days. Which area is asking for the most care? Often, giving a little attention to the lowest slice lifts several others with it.
Make it a ritual
- Rate your wheel today, without overthinking it.
- Choose one area to nourish this month, and one small step to start.
- Rate a fresh wheel in 30 days and compare. Don't shade over the old one, or the two will blur together.
Each Rooted journal builds this ritual in, with a fresh wellness wheel at the start and at the end of every 30-day season, so you can watch your growth take shape.
